Happy 12th!

Can't believe my baby has turned 12! 12 is an important age for youth in the Mormon church. It's a kind of rite of passage. The kids graduate from the Primary program (for kids) and begin attending the youth program called Young Men (or Young Women). He is officially one of Darin's boy scouts now (yay!) Let's just hope Darin stays in that calling for the next 2 years. Calin will still be attending Sunday School with his primary class, which is awesome because his teacher is the coolest gal in our ward and she is amazing with young people.
Also, along with turning 12, the young men in our church have the opportunity to receive the Aaronic priesthood and become a deacon. His duties will include passing the sacrament and collecting fast offerings from the members of our ward. We are so proud of Calin for finishing his Faith in God book and for preparing to receive the priesthood. How is it possible that he is just 6 short years away from graduating high school and leaving on a mission? Wasn't it just yesterday that he was a hyper happy toddler causing mischief of one kind or another?
This was back in 2004 when we lived in Logan, UT. This was shortly before Calin turned 2 and we moved to Ohio.
Calin had a busy birthday this year. After school he had homework then scarfed a quick dinner (his request of meatball subs) and then he had to leave for gymnastics before Darin got home. Gymnastics didn't end until 8, so it was late before we finally got to gifts and cake.
Phone selfies. "Mom, stop taking pictures so I can finish my homework."

During church, Calin uses colored pens to create mazes. He said he needed an orange pen so I got him a new set (also, now he'll stop stealing my pens).

These are the mazes he creates, front and back of the programs.
Already bathed and in her jammies.

Season Pass to Targhee. He spent a few weekends this spring up at Targhee with our neighbors and has started to love snowboarding even more.

What boy doesn't love getting a bag of candy?

He requested grasshopper pie, mint oreo ice cream in an oreo crust topped with whipped cream.

His new Young Men president stopped by with a bag of treats. What 12 year old boy isn't in heaven with so much candy to call his own?

Hard for me to believe he's 12 too. Sounds like he had a nice BD. Glad I got to talk with him for a few minutes before he took off. Aren't you clever-green candles on a grasshopper pie. How nice his YM Pres even came by. Bet Caln has been more than ready to get in YM. HE'll honor his Priesthood I'm sure. He's got a good example to follow.
